My name is Abigail, and I thought my life was perfect. I’d been married to Hayden for six years, and we had two kids: Drew, five, and Bella, two. Our life had its ups and downs, but I believed we were solid.
A few weeks ago, I went on a business trip for a week, assured by Hayden that everything was under control. He promised to handle the kids, so I focused on work. The first few days were hectic, but Hayden’s updates were reassuring. Then, on the third day, my friend Lydia sent me a concerning text with a photo of my kids playing in a yard I didn’t recognize, with a woman I didn’t know.
The next message revealed that Lydia had seen Hayden with this woman, kissing and hugging. Panic set in as I tried to reach Hayden, but he didn’t answer. Lydia confirmed the woman’s name was Tessa, and I felt the betrayal like a physical blow.
I changed my flight and rushed home, knowing I needed to confront the situation. When I arrived, Lydia handed me Tessa’s address. I went straight there and saw Drew and Bella playing outside, while Tessa watched from the porch. I quickly took my kids and left, with Tessa running after us in a panic.
I checked into a hotel with the kids and called Hayden. I wanted to hear his fear and confusion. He was desperate when he realized the kids were missing, but I stayed calm, telling him I’d be home soon.
When we arrived home, Hayden was on the porch, looking distraught. I told him I knew about Tessa and that our marriage was over. I informed him that I’d be filing for divorce and would be sorting out visitation for the kids. His pleas didn’t move me. The trust was irreparably broken.
As I led the kids inside to pack, I felt a mix of relief and sadness. It was the end of a chapter, and I was ready to move forward.
